The final two matches before spring break could have been a huge boost for the Lady Bulldogs Tennis team, but neither Western Kentucky nor IPFW chose to cooperate. The Lady Bulldogs lost on Tuesday to WKU 5-2, and on Wednesday to IPFW 7-0. Both matches saw the Ladies of A&M short-handed with both Yemurai Muskwe and Alison Gladness out of the lineup.
“We already have an uphill battle, and when 2 of your 6 players are not in the lineup, it becomes an almost impossible task,” Coach Thomas Colvin said.
Against WKU, the doubles team of Te’Isha Mixon and Jasmine Cherry got an 8-6 win at #2 doubles. Cherry has played well since moving up into the #2 doubles team with Mixon. Mixon and Brittany Jelks were the two bright spots in singles as they pulled out wins; Mixon 6-3 and a retire from her opponent; Jelks, in only as she can, went 3 sets to get her win, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Against IPFW, the Lady Bulldogs were competitive at the top, but could not get a break when needed.
Mixon fell at #1 6-4, 6-3 and Me’Shala Johnson fought back in her 2nd set after falling in the first to a 6-1, 7-5 score.
The Lady Bulldogs will next face UAH on March 25.
