NASHVILLE, TN - Alabama A&M's men's and women's tennis teams opened their 2010 campaign over the weekend at Lipscomb, and despite each team falling to the Bisons, head coach Thomas Colvin saw some bright spots for this early in the season. The Bulldogs dropped the women's match, 6-1 and the men's 7-0 Saturday evening.

After a strong showing at the East vs. West Round Robin, the Lady Bulldogs expected to come into the weekend play and secure a spot in Alexandria, La., for the Conference Championship.  As it turned out, the Ladies had to struggle to keep their tournament hopes alive.  Te'lsha Mixon finished her singles season in the conference with a perfect 8-0 record, leading the Bulldogs to a No. 3 seed in the SWAC Tournament.  A&M followed that performance with a 6-1 road victory over Tennessee State on Thursday.

The final two matches before spring break could have been a huge boost for the Lady Bulldogs Tennis team, but neither Western Kentucky nor IPFW chose to cooperate.  The Lady Bulldogs lost on Tuesday to WKU 5-2, and on Wednesday to IPFW 7-0.  Both matches saw the Ladies of A&M short-handed with both Yemurai Muskwe and Alison Gladness out of the lineup.

Yemurai Muskwe was relegated to a spectator as she gets past a slight injury. Her Lady Bulldog teammates stepped up in her absence, getting a 5-2 win over Tennessee State.

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs got an idea early and often of just how well they match up against the West Division of the SWAC. In four matches against Prairie View, Southern, UAPB and Grambling, the Ladies of A&M pretty much ‘held serve’ during the weekend of East vs. West play, going 2-2 with the two loses coming down to the wire.

On a chilly Sunday afternoon at the Charger tennis courts, Alabama A&M's women's tennis squad got the best of the UAH Chargers 7-2.  The men's action saw the Chargers sweep past the Bulldogs 9-0.
