Roderick Smothers enters his first year as the Assistant Athletics Director for Operations at Alabama A&M University.
Prior to Alabama A&M, Smothers served as the Director of Athletics at Philander Smith College where he managed and led all facets of the Athletic Department to include corporate sponsorships, revenue generation and day to day operations.
During that timeframe Philander Smith College had one of the most successful runs in school history, winning five championships and two Commissioner’s Cups, which highlights the most successful Athletic Departments in the Conference.
In addition to being the Director of Athletics, Smothers was voted to serve as the President of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. As the President, he represented the conference as a board member for the Athletic Director’s Association (ADA).
Smothers earned his Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Langston University, and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico.
