Game 1 - A&M 7, Alcorn 5
Meridian, Miss. - The Alabama A&M baseball team closed out SWAC play by taking game one of its three game set against Alcorn State this past weekend. The Bulldogs won the first game 7-5, dropped game two 7-5, and in game three were edged 15-14 in 10 innings. Game 1 - The Bulldogs scored two runs in the bottom half of the first, one run in the fifth, and four runs in the sixth en route to their 7-5 victory. Offensively, Marcus Spencer went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Bryan Evans scored two runs for A&M while Maveric Scott recorded two RBI with a run scored. Grant Mattix was awarded the win on the mound - pitching three innings allowing four hits and two runs. Alcorn's Jeff Jones went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored, while Darryl Jordan took the loss on the mound for the Braves. Game 2- A&M gave up six unanswered runs to Alcorn in the top of the fifth, which ultimately proved to be the dagger, as the Braves took game two from the Bulldogs with a 7-5 decision. Tyron Childress led AAMU on the offensive end going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored. Alton Ellison also scored two runs for A&M. A.J. Campbell suffered the loss for the Bulldogs. For the Braves, Rodney Warren drove in four while Adrian Bowens had two hits and two runs scored. Pitcher Tony Gonzales was awarded the win and Lee Johnson was credited with the save.
Game 3 - The Bulldogs forced ten innings, but allowed five runs - while only scoring four in the extra frame - falling short for the 15-14 final. Spencer led A&M going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Childress drove in three. Fabian Harper and Scott scored three runs for the Bulldogs. Mattix took the loss - pitching 1.1 innings and allowing four runs. Alcorn's Johnson was awarded the win in five innings of work.
A&M will close out its 2008 season when it plays The University of Texas on Wed. May 14 for a twin bill. |
