Alabama A&M rookie Te'lsha Mixon has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year the league announced Thursday on the eve of the conference tournament. Junior Alison Gladness also earned second-team all-SWAC honors as selected by the league's head coaches. Mixon began the season playing #3 singles and swept through the first round-robin play against Western division teams. Later in the season and after moving up to #1 for the Bulldogs, Mixon again swept past all her singles opponents in the Eastern roundup.
The Bulldogs begin play in the SWAC Tournament at 9:00 a.m. on Friday against Grambling. Should A&M defeat the Tigers, it will face the top seed Alcorn State at 4:00 p.m.
