Bowlers Left on The Bubble as NCAA Announces Field for National Tournament

A&M narrowly misses national tournament
Alabama A&M head bowling coach Jeff McCorvey was not surprised, but a little disappointed Wednesday when the NCAA announced the qualifying teams to the 2009 NCAA National Bowling Championships.  The Bulldogs were not among the eight teams selected, and for the third straight year, are one of the few teams left just outside the championships.  For most of the season, AAMU has been ranked among the top 10 teams nationally, but once again fell victim to the limited number of teams invited to participate in the national championships.

Earlier in the week, McCorvey said that he felt the Bulldogs were probably on the outside looking in again this year when the selections are announced.  Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, he was correct in his prediction.

A&M finished as the national runner-up to Fairleigh Dickinson in 2006 and has not earned an invitation from the selection committee since that historical run to the title match.  All eight teams are selected at-large, and no Southwestern Athletic Conference teams were selected to this year's tournament.

The teams selected for the 2009 tournament are Arkansas State, Central Missouri, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Nebraska, New Jersey City, and Vanderbilt.
