Alabama A&M's bid for back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference titles came up one pin short in the decisive seventh game Sunday as Southern defeated the Bulldogs 4-3 in games and 159-158 in game seven.
Southern jumped out to win game one 193-187. Alabama A&M won the next two games (170-156 and 181-144) to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Jaguars won games four (176-171) and five (215-196) before the Bulldogs won game six (190-178).
In the deciding game seven, both teams started slow but fought hard at the end of the game. When the ninth frame was complete, Alabama A&M led 158 to 148. Down eight pins in the final frame, Southern's Vanessa Caldwell knocked down nine pins on her final throw to earn the Jaguars the victory.
