The Alabama A&M bowling team kicked off its season with a 6-4 record at the Central Region Duals over the weekend. After losing a close match to defending national champions, Vanderbilt on Saturday, the Bulldogs rebounded on Sunday to defeat the Commodores in a match that came down to the last frame. Junior, Stephanie Panfil delivered the key strike, and senior Whitney Smith locked up the victory with a crucial split conversion.
"The lanes were extremely difficult and we struggled on Saturday, but bounced back on Sunday and bowled much better," stated head coach, Jeff McCorvey. "The players never got down and the win over Vandy will give us some momentum heading into conference play next weekend."
The weekend also included two wins over Grambling and Arkansas-Pine Bluff , two losses to Central Missouri, and a split with Arkansas State.
Whitney Smith was named team MVP for the tournament.
